Funding Priorities

Chronic pain is a significant problem globally and one of the most commonly disabling
conditions worldwide. The research mission of the Center for Advanced Pain Studies (CAPS) is
to elucidate fundamental mechanisms underlying chronic pain and migraine and to
discover novel, non-opioid, pain therapeutics that will alleviate suffering from chronic pain and migraine.
CAPS currently has over 80 researchers working towards finding a cure for a variety of chronic
pain conditions and migraine. To accomplish this mission, CAPS is prioritizing the following
funding priorities.

25.3 M

Adults suffer from pain daily in America

#1

Pain is the #1 reason Americans seek healthcare

63.5B

Is the cost of pain to the American economy annually

Postdoctoral Award

This is a competitive fund that enables our postdocs to pursue additional pain or migraine focused projects. Contributions to this fund directly support a research project that is advancing a cure for migraine or chronic pain.

Research Excellence

As we advance the understanding of pain and migraine science, more specialized equipment is needed. This fund helps to supplement the equipment in our Behavioral and Electrophysiology cores.

Student Travel Fund

We support over 50 students in our center and a key experience for these young scientists is attending and presenting their work at conferences. Contributions to this fund will directly support student travel.
